GOT A QUESTION?
How does an agent work?
An Agent has a list of models and actors on their “books” that they act as a representative for – like a “middle-man”.
Agents have clients that reach out to them with job briefs that detail the requirements for an acting or modelling role. The agent will then submit all suitable actors or models to the client for consideration. From there, the client will shortlist who they wish to book or they may request some talent to audition.
It’s important to note that our clients make these decisions, not us, and that often clients will approach multiple agents to find what they need. Not everyone will be selected to audition. An agent can put in suggestions and extra notes about any actors or models who we believe would be a great fit for the role, but ultimately it’s the client’s choice.
If you are shortlisted for a job or audition, your agent will reach out to you. If your agent hasn’t been in touch for a while, don’t worry. We work very hard behind the scenes, however we will only contact you if you have progressed further in the casting process.
What makes Hive Mgmt different from other agencies?
We offer a personalised experience for our talent and clients. You are not one of thousands, you are part of the Hive family. Having smaller numbers of talent on our books allows us to really get to know you (or your child) personally. We know what your aspirations are and how to best match you to roles that you would be great for.
We have a genuine relationship with our talent. You don’t have to go through the “call centre” to get answers or updates.
After almost 10 years working as a Talent Agent for actors and models, our Queen Bee really knows what works and what’s important and has put together an agency that is passionate about getting to know you and booking work for you.
What sort of work could I book through Hive Mgmt?
We represent actors for TV commercials, TV series and films. We also look after models for still photography work.
A lot of what we do is for advertising, whether that’s a TV commercial or a photoshoot for a catalogue, a billboard or images to appear in stores. However, we do also submit talent for on-going TV and film work, it’s just that those roles come up less frequently than advertising roles which we get everyday, multiple times a day. There’s no limit to the amount of advertising jobs that are briefed to us each day.
What types of people do you represent?
We represent adults, kids, teens, babies and family groups. All ages, genders, backgrounds, ethnicities, shapes, sizes, skill levels and abilities. We are proud to be an inclusive agency.
Please note, we can only represent talent who live within a 2 hour drive of either Sydney or Melbourne cities. There are several reasons for this, including child employment regulations on travel times for kids and date requirements or changes that can occur at the last minute. Most shoots in NSW and VIC are held around metro Sydney or Melbourne areas. Unfortunately we must be strict on this.
Do I need to have had experience?
No, you don’t need to have any experience. However, you must be confident on camera and able to follow direction on set. If you are camera shy or uncomfortable on camera, maybe work on some confidence skills before applying. Anyone can do it!
How often would I need to be available for shoots and auditions?
It’s hard to say… some weeks you may get a lot of requests from our clients and sometimes it could be months before you are selected for a job or audition. On average, our talent are requested for auditions around 1-5 times per month, but it’s different for everyone.
Overall, you would need to have good general availability. A lot of our requests come through at short notice, so you would need to be available and ready. Generally, we are only given 24 to 48 hours notice for you to film an audition at home
Can you guarantee that I will book work?
Short answer, no. We can guarantee that we will do everything that we can to find opportunities for you but we can’t guarantee that our clients will select you for their shoot. No agent can, it’s not up to us.
We work hard for our talent. We truly put our heart and soul into it. We want all of our talent to succeed and we wouldn’t offer you representation if we didn’t believe that you have what it takes to book work. Remember, a win for you is a win for us too!
How much money could I make as an actor or model?
The amount that you can earn varies greatly depending on the job type and where the images / commercial will be released. Below is an indication only, based on recent job briefs that we have received. Keep in mind that kids rates are generally at the lower end of the scale and adults a bit higher.
For a catalogue shoot, you may earn around $95 to $250 per hour. Bigger scale modelling jobs may pay $500 to $2,000 flat rate. Or maybe more.
For TV commercials, you could be paid anywhere from $500 to $15,000 depending on the role and the scale of the release. Eg. How many years the commercial will be released for, how many countries it will be shown in, whether it’s on TV only or cinemas, billboards, stadiums etc. The more extensive the usage of the commercial is, the pay rate will usually be higher. Also, ‘speaking roles’ are often paid higher than ‘non-speaking’ roles.
For TV series and films, the rates are generally a daily or weekly rate not too dissimilar to a standard, corporate job wage, unless you are already super famous! Don’t be fooled by celebrities who most likely started out on a humble weekly wage for their TV role.
Do you charge a representation fee?
No. We don’t charge any fees for representation.
How much commission do you take?
We deduct 10% to 20%, depending on the job type. A full breakdown would be provided if you are offered representation.
What's the application process?
You can easily apply online. Head on over to our APPLY page for more information and application form links.
Do you accept everyone that applies?
Unfortunately we can’t represent everyone that applies to our agency. It wouldn’t be a good idea for us to represent too many people of the same look, cultural background and age. Having smaller pools of talent in each category will give each person a better chance of being selected, while having a wide range of diverse talent will allow us to help more clients fill their roles. So ultimately, we want to cover a lot of categories but not with too many people in each.
Other things that we will look for in your application form is your comfortability on camera, how you present yourself and how you follow instructions. 95% of first round auditions require you to film yourself at home, so it’s important for us to know that you can confidently do that. Our clients will be looking for people who are going to be able to follow direction on the day and provide a good performance for their shoot. So that’s what we are looking for too. In saying that, no formal training is required – just the right attitude to show up and give it your best.
